There are several options available for the tool which will affect how the pixels will look, these include various blending modes, opacity, paint stroke style, fidelity, area, and tolerance. The Art History Brush lets you apply paint styles to your image using a history state or snapshot as the source. However, for us mere mortals who will continue to use “old” Photoshop for a while longer, here’s a way to create a painterly effect that has been in a part of Photoshop since version 5.5. One of the new features mentioned in CS5 are the powerful new painting tools.
